Measuring Through a Water Gap
In ROV applications the water can be considered to be a coating.
Thus it is possible to measure steel thickness through a small
water gap between the probe and the material under inspection.
As the Velocity of Sound for seawater is approximately 1500m/s
this equates to a maximum seawater gap of 2.25mm.
