Installing the batteries
Make sure that the main switch is in the „OFF“
position. Slide the battery compartment cover
and forward swing it open. Insert the batteries
according to the indicated symbols „+/-“. Close
the battery compartment cover and slide it back
to its previous position until it snaps. Ensure that
all the batteries are of the same type and have the
same charge level. The NiCd or NiMh rechargeab-
le batteries are preferable.
Mounting the flash unit on the camera
Switch off the flash unit and the camera.
Turn the knurled screw on the flash unit upwards
towards the flash unit housing. Slide the flash
unit foot into the camera accessory shoe. Turn the
knurled screw toward the camera body thereby
clamping the flash unit.
Removing the flash unit from the camera
Switch off the flash unit and the camera.
Turn the knurled screw upwards towards the flash
unit housing. Withdraw the flash from the camera
accessory shoe.
Actuating the ON/OFF switch
and testing the flash
To switch on the flash unit slide first the switch on
the flash front side from „0“ to „I“. Then put the
main switch on the backside of the D 3500 into
„ON“ position. The „READY“ indicator lights up
as soon as the flash is ready to operation. Press
the Test button to ensure the flash unit works pro-
perly. If the flash unit is discharged completely,
wait until the „READY“ indication glows again.
To switch off, slide the main switch to “OFF”
position.
Taking pictures, AF/TTL mode
When a flash shot has been taken, „OK“ symbol
flashes shortly on the LED display to confirm the
correct exposure.
Auto-focus „AF“ metering flash
The integrated „AF“ red light beam of the flash
unit supports the automatic focusing of the auto-
focus TTL cameras.
When the prevailing light is insufficient for
automatic focusing, the flash unit will project a
red light beam onto the object as soon as the
camera’s shutter is lightly touched. The camera’s
auto-focus system than focuses the object by this
spot of the red light beam.
TTL flash control (through the lens)
The flash unit receives his information only
from the connected TTL controlled camera. The
exposure measurement in the TTL mode (TTL =
through the lens) is performed by the camera’s
sensor.
This sensor measures the light falling on the ca-
mera. An electronic control circuit in the camera
sends a stop signal to the camera after receiving
the light; the TTL mode means that all the factors
exposure affecting (e.g. filter, changes of the
shutter or zoom with variable camera shutter)
are taken into account. You don’t need to care for
the adjustment of the light output. The camera’s
electronic system controls the necessary amount
of light.
Besides you may use different measurement de-
vices (e.g. spot, matrix or centred exposure mea-
surement), which are available in some cameras.
To switch the TTL flash mode press gently the
„MODE“ button to TTL position. Then the „TTL“
indication appears on the LED display.
