For flash light of the C type: the E-TTL indication
appears, when the flash unit with a TTL camera
connected is.
Manual flash mode at full light output
To use the D 3500 flash unit at full light output
in the manual mode the „MODE“ button must
be pressed and the LED display must indicate
„1/1“. By further pressing the „MODE“ button
the output grades 1/4 and 1/16 may be chosen.
Pressing the button again returns the flash unit
into the TTL mode.
Bounced flash
Using direct flash to illuminate subject will result
in harsh, unnatural and unattractive shadows.
This is often combined with a sharp drop of expo-
sure from the foreground to the background.
This can be avoided by bounce flash. Because
the dissipated light produces soft and uniform
reproduction sharpness, the reflector is tilted
to an angle up to 90°, so that the flash light will
be bounced off a suitable reflection surface. For
colour pictures the reflection surface must be
white or have some neutral colour and may not
be structured. If tilting the reflector ensure that
no light is bounced from reflector direct on the
subject.
To ensure the correct exposure when using the
flash the user is recommended to observe the
following points:
(1) Select white or reflective surfaces to bounce
the light off. Otherwise your pictures will come
with unnatural colour cast similar to that of the
reflecting surface.
(2) Set the camera’s exposure mode to Aperture
priority Auto („A“) or Manual („M“).
(3) Use the wider aperture than normally do, as 2
or 3 stops of light can be lost when using bounce
flash.
Manual zoom
When using zoom lens you should manually put
the flash reflector in a position corresponding to
the used focal length.
The following zoom ranges are available in D
3500 for the manual setting: 28-35-50-85 mm
