O PERATING YOUR TRIMMER
Before operating the unit, stand in the operating posi -
tion (Fig. 15). Check for the following:
• The operator is wearing eye p rotection and proper
clothing.
• W ith a slightly-bent right arm, the operator ’s right
hand is holding the shaft grip.
• The operator ’ s left arm is straight, the left hand hold -
ing the handle.
• The unit is at waist level.
• T
he cutting attach me nt is parallel to the ground and
easil y c ontacts the grass without the need to b end o v er.
ADVANCING THE CUTTING LINE
String advance is cont r olled by tapping the string head
on grass while running engine at full throttle.
1. Run engine at full throttle.
2.
Tap the knob on g r ound to advance string. The string
advances each time the knob is tapped. Do not hold
the knob on the g round.
TIPS FOR BEST TRIMMING RESULTS
• For best trimming results, operate unit at full throttle.
• Keep the cutting attachment parallel to the g round.
• Do not fo r ce the cutting attachment. Allow the tip
of the line to do the cutting, especially along walls.
Cutting with mo re than the tip will reduce cutting ef -
ficiency and may overload the engine.
• Cut grass over 8 inches (200 mm) by working f r om
top to bottom in small inc r ements to avoid p r ema -
ture line wear or engine drag.
• Slowly move the trimmer into and out of the cutting
area at the desir ed height. Move either in a forwa rd-
backwa r d or side-to-side motion. Cutting shorter
lengths pr oduces the best results.
• Trim only when grass and weeds a re dr y .
• The life of your cutting line is dependent upon:
1. Proper adher ence to explained trimming techniques
2. What vegetation is cut
3. Wher e vegetation is cut
For example, the line will wear faster when trimming
against a foundation wall as opposed to trimming
around a tree.
Some line b reakage will occur fr om:
• Entanglement with fo r eign matter
• Normal line fatigue
• Attempting to cut thick, stalky weeds
•
Forcing the line into o b jects such as walls or fence posts

Decorative trimming is accomplished by r emoving
all vegetation a round tr ees, posts, fences and mo re.
Rotate the whole unit so that the cutting attachment is
at a 30-deg ree angle to the ground (Fig. 16).
