O-200-D & X Series Engine Installation and Operation Manual
3 January 2017
Engine Description
2-2.5.1. Fuel Supply Hose Routing
Fuel supply lines must be kept as short as possible and secured to prevent undue vibration.
Fuel supply lines must not be connected to the cylinder heads in any manner, Fuel supply
hoses and fittings must be sized to avoid low pressure at the carburetor inlet. The
maximum temperature rise from the tank to the fuel pump inlet should not exceed 10°F (at
100°F fuel temperature). See fuel system specifications for additional specifications. All
fuel hoses in the engine compartment must conform to FAA TSO-C53a Type C and/or
FAA TSO-C140, or the most recent FAA approved specification.
2-2.5.2. Fuel Filter Requirements
The engine installer must provide fuel filtered to a maximum 140-micron rating to the
inlet of the carburetor.
A water separator is recommended to be installed in line with the fuel
supply.
The aircraft fuel system must also meet CAR 3 or Title 14 CFR Part 23 flow
requirements, as applicable.
2-2.5.3. Fuel Temperature
The airframe manufacturer must ensure the fuel temperature maximum rise between the
fuel tank and the carburetor does not exceed the limits specified in Section 2-4.
2-2.5.4. Aircraft Fuel Boost Pump
An aircraft boost pump can aid starting and vapor suppression on a carburetor-equipped
engine. The airframe manufacturer must ensure the minimum and maximum fuel pressure
at the carburetor inlet is between 0.2 psi minimum and 6.0 psi maximum.
2-2.5.5. Water Separator
A gascolator, positioned lower than the carburetor, is recommended to ensure water is
removed from the engine fuel system prior to entering the carburetor.
2-2.6. Lubrication System
The engine lubrication system is a wet sump, pressure oil system. The engine lubrication
system includes the internal engine driven pressure oil pump, oil sump, oil filter, oil
pressure relief valve, and pressure instrumentation. An optional oil cooler adapter is
available. A schematic of the lubrication system is included in Section 2-3.5.
The oil pressure relief valve closes the rear end of the right gallery until delivery of the
pump creates a pressure above the normal range of 30 to 35 psi. Excessive pressure opens
the valve, allowing oil to drain into the crankcase rear cover, until the pressure returns to
normal.
2-2.6.1. Oil Temperature and Pressure Connection Locations
A threaded port is located on the 1-3 side of the oil filter adapter at the rear of the engine
for oil temperature monitoring. The oil pressure monitoring port is located on the lower aft
portion of the 1-3 side of the engine crankcase.
