BIOS Setup
This chapter describes the Award Setup program contained in the flash-ROM BIOS
and how to use the program to configure the system. The Setup program is used to
modify the system configuration. The configuration data is stored on battery-backed
RAM which maintains the data even when the power is turned off.
Starting the Setup Program
The Award BIOS starts immediately the power is turned on to the computer. The
BIOS reads the system information stored in CMOS memory and starts the process of
checking and configuring the system. When this process is complete, the BIOS
searches for an operating system (OS) contained on one of the disks, starts the OS, and
hands over control.
While the BIOS is executing, the Setup program can be started by either of the
following two methods.
1. Press the DEL key immediately after turning on the power to the
system.
2. Press the DEL key when the following message appears briefly at
the bottom of the screen during the power-on self test (POST).
Press the DEL key to enter the setup program.
If this message disappears before you have time to press the DEL key, reboot the
system either by turning the power off then on again or pressing the RESET button on
the computer. You can also reboot the computer by pressing the <Ctrl>, <Alt>, and
<Delete> keys at the same time. If these keys are not pressed correctly and therefore
the system does not boot, an error message appears prompting you to press one of the
following keys.
Press the F1 key to proceed or press the DEL key to enter setup.
