8.2 Warning
The warnings will have yellow steady background and no buzzer will sound.
8.3 Investigate the cause of error
It should always be investigated what caused the error and if possible corrects the
cause of the error. The alarm or warning will remain on the display until cause of the
error disappears and the normal operation resumes.
Any alarm status indicates some specific VDR malfunction, which should always be
investigated to provide guidance to relevant action.
Any Warning indicates an abnormal status of the VDR, which the Officer on Watch
must be informed about (see error list below).
The most common source of deviation is that one or several of the units that transmits
data to the VDR is shut off. One common example is the echo sounder that in many
cases is shut off at open sea. In general missing input data is a common source for
VDR errors.
