5 System

process

Before the VDR system can be used it has to be configured by an authorized
technician and also commissioned by a certified commissioning engineer. The number
of types and signals to be recorded is stipulated in the regulations IEC 61996-1 for
VDR and -2 for S-VDR. After the configuration the VDR is turned on and shall never
be manually shut down as long as the vessel is operational. The system is an
autonomous system that during normal operation requires no supervision. See
regulations in chapter 12.

Note!

During normal operation the VDR records the configured data continuously. The only
notable notification is

a short test tone from the microphones every 12 hour

and

the Remote Control Unit shows Normal Operation. The test tone is generated to make
sure that the microphones are working properly.
