Print Image Quality Problems
Broken and dangling components or scraps of paper lodged in a paper feeder can damage a
sheet of paper as it moves out of the feeder.

Turn the printer off and open all of the printer access covers. Inspect the interior of the
printer for scraps of paper or obviously broken components that could be obstructing the
paper path. Remove any scraps of paper that you find. If you see a broken component, call for
service.

Call your service technician.
This problem may be caused by a malfunctioning or broken component that requires service.
Finished Image Rubs Off of the Page
The following characteristics define this print image problem:
•
The toner image is not completely affixed to the fin-
ished print; the image easily rubs off of the page.
•
The control panel does not display an error code.
The following procedure guides you through multiple actions
that may solve this print image quality problem. Proceed one
step at a time until the problem is solved—you may not need
to complete the entire procedure. If one of the steps in this
procedure corrects the problem but the identical problem
returns in less than 50 prints, call for service.

Inspect the finished print. If the image is extremely light, go to the first image quality prob-
lem procedure in this section, “Image is extremely faint and/or image contains blank areas.”
The ability of the printer to melt and permanently bond the toner image to the page depends
a great deal on the darkness of the image. A light image causes less heat to build up during the
fusing process, which in turn makes the image on the page less permanent.

If the image density is normal but the image still easily rubs off, call your service technician.
This problem may be caused by a malfunctioning or broken component that requires service.
Other Print Image Quality Problems
The following characteristics define this print image problem:

The finished print has a problem that is not identified by any of the other procedures in this
manual.
•
The control panel does not display an error code.
The following procedure guides you through multiple actions that may solve this print image qual-
ity problem. Proceed one step at a time until the problem is solved—you may not need to complete
the entire procedure. If one of the steps in this procedure corrects the problem but the identical
problem returns in less than 50 prints, call for service.

Replace all of the paper in the paper trays with newly opened paper.
