There
must not be
any metallic surfaces located above the horizontal plane of the
enclosure, within a radius of 2 metres around the G2.

If G2 is above a large metallic surface, its distance to the metallic surface must be at least
0.8m.

Avoid positioning the G2 within a few meters of any RF signal transmitting antennas (e.g.,
VHF, SSB, Radar, etc.). This ensures that the G2’s internal electronic circuits have a
reduced exposure to
RF noise
, Thus, reducing the change of degraded performance.

Where Radar system is present, make sure to mount the G2 outside the direct path of the
radar beam – typically, Radar beam has a conical shape which extends outwards from the
Radar emitter, and sweeps a full 360° horizontal circle.

Mount G2 at least 3m away from an open-type antenna,
and
position G2 at least 0.8m
above the antenna top.

Mount G2 at least 3m away from other antennas

The G2 should be mounted as leveled as possible (ideally, when the boat is at rest in calm
water – e.g., at dockside). This ensures that the G2’s internal sensors can determine the
attitude of the mounted unit.

Compensation for any horizontal offset bias can be configured if necessary (see PBIAS on
page 66 table 19).

The G2 computes its position as the geographic location of its internal Primary GNSS
antenna; that antenna is in the end of the enclosure opposite the end which has a recessed
arrow on the underside & the long-sight alignment post on the top-side (see Figure 8 & Figure
13). Thus, you should mount the G2 so that the Primary antenna’s end is at the location on
the vessel where you desire the vessel’s “reported GNSS position” to be.
Radiobeacon Reception Considerations
Consider a mounting location to minimize Electromagnetic Interference (ambient electrical
and radio-frequency noise) in the Terrestrial DGPS Radiobeacon band, in order to maximize
the Beacon receiver’s performance.
•
The optimal location for the G2B will be a position where it receives the strongest average
Radiobeacon signal, with the lowest average EMI.
•
Ensure that the G2B is located as far as possible from all other equipment emitting EMI – in
particular: DC motors, alternators, solenoids, radios, power cables, display units and other
electronic devices.
•
The G2B calculates the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of the Beacon signals; the larger the
SNR value, the better the signal quality is. If you are able to monitor the G2B SNR values,
