3.11 Making A Subdued Off-Hook

Voice Announcement

(SOHVA)

You can make a subdued voice announcement to another sta-
tion that is off-hook and busy on a call if the system is arranged
to provide this feature. If your telephone provides a SOHVA
button and you encounter a busy tone after making an intercom
call, you can then decide whether to deliver a SOHVA mes-
sage, camp on at that station, set a message-waiting indicator,
or hang up. Without this special button, the SOHVA call com-
pletes automatically.

Make a SOHVA announcement using the SOHVA button
as follows:

•

make intercom call and hear busy tone,

•

decide whether to interrupt or not,

•

if you decide not to interrupt the called party, hang up,

–or–

•

to interrupt, press preprogrammed SOHVA button and
hear several quick tone bursts,

•

make announcement (busy tone means that the called tele-
phone is in speakerphone mode and you cannot make an-
nouncement, that your SOHVA has been denied through
system programming, or that the called party has blocked
your SOHVA),

•

wait on line for reply (either verbal or LCD reply).

NOTE: The caller cannot control how the announcement is received.

This depends upon the equipment used and station program-

ming.
