Locating the antenna
To obtain optimal radiation efficiency from your antenna, and
optimal reception at your antenna, the antenna must be mounted in
a suitable location.
The antenna should be located in a position that:
•
provides adequate space for installation
•
supports the RF earthing required for correct tuning and
loading
•
complies with any local EMC regulations
•
provides at least 12 m between the antenna dipoles and any
power lines or wires
If the antenna is mounted on a rooftop, the following must be
considered:
•
the roof must be able to support the weight of the mast and
antenna
•
the roof, anchor points and fixtures must be able to
withstand the wind loading caused by the antenna
installation
•
the mounting point for the base plate must be level
•
any local regulations regarding an installation and the
distance to an edge of the roof
Earthing the antenna
When installing an antenna on open ground, earth conductivity is
often insufficient to provide adequate earthing, especially on
well-drained sandy, rocky or loamy soils. An earth plane should be
used to provide adequate earthing of the antenna. An earth mat for
an antenna mounted on open ground can be supplied by Codan
(Codan part number 15-00158).
