MITRE / BEVEL CUTS
As the number of sides the workpiece has changes, so do the mitre and bevel
angles. The chart below gives the cutting angles for a variety of shapes,
assuming that all sides are of equal length.
COMPOUND MITRE CUTS
A compound mitre is a cut made using a mitre angle and a bevel angle at the
same time. This is the type of cut used to make frames or boxes with bevelled
sides.
1. Set your saw to the required
angles and make some trial cuts.
2. Practice fitting the cut pieces
together.
• Always try cuts on some scrap
pieces of wood first.
GROOVE CUTTING
Your saw is has a groove plate and
thumbscrew that lets you cut
grooves.
1. Subtract the depth of the groove
from the thickness of your
workpiece
• This will tell you the height
above the table surface at
which the saw blade must be
set (the saw blade height).
