ERIAL CONNECTION TO
THE
G
ATEWAY
Serial Connection
The serial connection described here uses Microsoft® HyperTerminal to display diagnostics
coming from the
CITELlink™
SIP
Handset
Gateway.
1. Start up a HyperTerminal session – e.g. click on Start Menu – Programs – Accessories –
Communications – HyperTerminal.
2. In HyperTerminal, ensure the following values are set:
Connect Using
com<your com port number>
Port Speed
115200
Data bits
8
Parity
none
Stop bits
1
Flow Control
none
3. Connect your PC to your
CITELlink
SIP
Handset Gateway using a 9 pin, straight-through,
Serial Cable between the PC’s serial COM port and the Gateway card diagnostic port.
As soon as the serial connection is made, you may see information from the Gateway
appearing on the HyperTerminal screen, in response to telephone activity from the legacy
telephones. Press <enter> and you should receive a response. If the system is not idle and
you do not see this information, then it is likely that the serial connection between your PC
and the Gateway is not correct. You must correct this problem before you can use the
HyperTerminal connection successfully.
Hints for making a successful connection –
•
Ens ure no other devices and/or applications are using the serial COM port. You may
also wish to try connecting using a different COM port.
•
If the Gateway is already running in serial mode when you start the HyperTerminal
session, it will not send information to HyperTerminal. Press <enter> up to 10 times,
and the unit will boot from flash, allowing you to confirm the HyperTerminal
connection. Note that the Gateway will still remain in serial mode after this manually-
triggered boot. Consult CITEL Technical Support for further details, if needed.
The Serial connection to the Gateway offers access to a full diagnostic and configuration
command structure. Only use the commands listed and described in this document, unless
otherwise instructed by CITEL.
Caution – incorrect command use may take the CITELlink SIP Gateway out of service.
