IP Single or Dual Port EXTender 4100: Quick Installation Guide
16
Essential Configuration
1. Port
Enabled
Yes/No – Disabling any unused ports is recommended in order
to reduce any unnecessary traffic on the network link.
Path:
Remote->Configuration->Port->Port_1 (and Port_2)
2. Setting
User IDs
– A user ID “maps” which port on the Remote connects to a
specific port on the PBXgateway. There are several ways in which this is
accomplished:
a) By default Port Matching is enabled (
Path:
Gateway->Configuration-
>Connect).If no User ID is entered in the Remote the user will be
prompted to enter the User ID when connecting to the PBXgateway. It is
the port number of the PBXgateway by default. The administrator must
advise the users of the User ID to connect with.
b) User IDs can be manually input either in the individual port menus or by
use of the User List feature (
Path:
Gateway->User List). The User List
allows for easier management of multiple users. The main difference with
the User List is that a user can be assigned multiple ports to connect to
(typically not used on a one or two port system).
c) When using multiple Remotes to connect to a single PBXgateway the
User IDs
must
be used to specify which user is to connect to which
port(s) on the PBXgateway (
Path:
Gateway->Configuration->Port-
>Port_1 (and Port_2)).
It is recommended that User IDs reflect the user’s extension number. For
example, if John Smith’s internal extension number was 5837 then 5837 should
be used as this port’s User ID.
3. Setting the IP Destination – The IP destination is simply the address of the
PBXgateway. The Remote will attempt to connect to the PBXgateway using
this address.
Path:
Remote->Configuration->Connect->RVP_Over_IP->Port_1 (and
Port_2)
IP Parameters
Prior to the users making any phone calls or the administrator having remote
access to the Remote the system IP parameters must be configured.
Path:
Remote->Configuration->IP->LAN->Address
1.
Address Mode
– In Static mode the Remote will use the IP information
entered in the Address, Subnet Mask and Default Router fields. In DHCP
mode (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), if the corporate network is
equipped with a DHCP server, the address will be assigned automatically.
The Remote’s IP address will be displayed with the system information
(
Path:
Remote->Status->System->General Info) and can be viewed at any
time.
2. IP
Address
– A valid IP address for the Remote must be entered in order for
it to operate on the IP network. The IP address should be obtained from the
corporate IT Administrator prior to configuring the Remote.
