Serial over LAN
The Cisco CMX 3375 appliance supports the Serial over LAN (SOL) feature.
SOL is enabled by default. The convention is to use the KVM console and/or the CIMC console with SOL
to access the console of the Cisco CMX 3375 appliance. If you choose to use the physical serial cable connection
on the appliance (either the RJ-45 serial connector on the rear or the DB-9 connection via the KVM cable on
the front), the terminal output might not display correctly. Instead, the output can display random characters
such as “ÿæÿëÎÿïÿûëÿß”. This is typically a result of SOL being set to the wrong port, usually
com0
. Some
setups may also require the baud rate to be lowered to 9600 bps.
To work around this issue using Cisco IMC CLI, run the following commands in the same order:
•
scope sol
•
set comport com1
•
set baud-rate 9600
•
exit
•
commit
To work around this issue using Cisco IMC GUI, follow the below steps:
Step 1
Access the Cisco IMC.
Step 2
Choose
Compute > Remote Management > Serial over Lan
.
Step 3
Update the
com port
from
com0
to
com1
.
Step 4
Enter a lower baud rate from
115.2 kbps
to
9600 bps
.
Smart Access Serial
This Cisco CMX 3375 appliance supports the Smart Access Serial feature. This feature allows you to switch
between host serial and Cisco IMC CLI.
SOL is supported for SSH option only. Telnet is not supported.
Note
• This feature has the following requirements:
• A serial cable connection, which can use either the RJ-45 serial connector on the server rear panel,
or a DB-9 connection when using the KVM cable (Cisco PID N20-BKVM) on the front-panel KVM
console connector.
