PTA Architectural Model
In the figure, an ATM network (with no routing capability) is between the clients and the
Cisco 10000 series router. Each client session arrives on a VC (multiple sessions and PCs can use this
single VC). The IP traffic of the client is encapsulated in PPPoX. The Cisco 10000 series router
terminates the PPP sessions and routes the client data packets toward their final destination, typically
onto the ISP or corporate network.
Note
PPPoX refers to either PPPoA or PPPoE.

shows a PPP termination and aggregation (PTA) to virtual routing and forwarding (VRF)
model for PPPoA or PPPoE sessions.
