Item 57226
Operating Instructions
TO PREVENT SERIOUS
INJURY: Grip the tool firmly.
To assist you with operation, please refer to the Assembly
Diagram and Parts List near the end of the manual.
Never force the tool or attachment to do the work of a
larger industrial tool. It is designed to do the job better
and more safely at the rate for which it was intended.
1. For most uses, it is helpful to grasp the tool
much like a pencil. This will allow the finest
control of the tool. Before starting on your
actual workpiece, practice a similar action
(drilling, cutting, polishing) on a scrap piece.
2. Apply only slight pressure. Let the tool do the
work. To prevent heat build-up, do not cover
the air vents with your hands during use.
3. Use the Square Stone Dresser (Accessory E)
to maintain the proper shape of
grinding stones and wheels.
4. Use the Mandrel (Accessory L) to
attach the Sanding Discs (Accessory A),
Buffing Wheel (Accessory B), and
Cut Off Wheel (Accessory H) to the Collet.
See “To Insert Accessories:” on page 8
for more information.
Setting the Speed
1. The Rotary Tool has a Speed Control Dial (12)
which clicks into the different speeds, from
highest to lowest. Move the Dial to the
highest setting for the speed with maximum
RPM (35,000). The Tool has five other adjustable
settings, the lowest being for 8,000 RPM.
Note:
Always start work at the lowest
RPM setting (8,000 RPM).
2.
CAUTION!
Do not change the speed while
the Rotary Tool is working. Remove Tool
from workpiece before adjusting speed.
3.
Slow speeds
of 15,000 RPM or less are best for
cleaning, polishing, plastics, precious metal, and
delicate materials. Some materials melt at lower
temperatures and should be cut at lower speeds.
Higher speeds
are best for drilling, carving, cutting,
shaping, and routing. Hard materials like iron, steel
and hard wood should be worked on at high speeds.
See “Recommended Accessory Speeds”
on page 10 for more information.
4. Press the Power Switch on. ON is noted
by a line (l), and OFF is noted by (O).
5. When finished using the tool, turn OFF the
Power Switch and unplug the tool. Allow
the tool to cool, then wipe clean and
store all parts in the included case.
