200 Driving and Operating
R (Reverse) : To back up, press
down on the clutch pedal and shift
into R (Reverse). Let up on the
clutch pedal slowly while pressing
the accelerator pedal.
Caution
Shifting to R (Reverse) while the
vehicle is moving forward could
damage the transmission. The
repairs would not be covered by
the vehicle warranty. Shift to
R (Reverse) only after the vehicle
is stopped.
Also, use R (Reverse) along with
the parking brake for parking the
vehicle.
Drive Systems
All-Wheel Drive
If your vehicle has active on
demand all-wheel drive (AWD), the
AWD system operates automatically
without any action required by the
driver. If the front drive wheels begin
to slip, the rear wheels will
automatically begin to drive the
vehicle as required. There may be a
slight engagement noise during hard
use but this is normal.
The AWD warning light blinks when
AWD system is temporarily
disabled.
All-Wheel-Drive Light

108 . If the light blinks briefly, and
then goes out, this is normal and
does not indicate a system fault.
However if the light blinks
continuously, see your dealer.
The light comes on to indicate that
there is a malfunction in the AWD
system. If it happens, see your
dealer.
When using a compact spare tire on
an AWD vehicle, the system
automatically detects the compact
spare and disables AWD. To restore
AWD operation and prevent
excessive wear on the system,
replace the compact spare with a
full-size tire as soon as possible.
