Service and Maintenance

When washing around the engine, remove
the oil catch cup or omit the step of
washing around the cup to reduce effort.

Check the engine blow-by oil level after it
has rained, snowed, mud has splashed
against it, etc.

Clean up besides maintenance when any
fluid drips from the cup to the flywheel
housing or to the ground.

5. Fuel Filter :

Replace the fuel filter every

96 000 km (60,000 miles) or 18 months or
2,000 hours or more frequently if clogged or
replace when the fuel filter indicator light
comes on.

6. Pre-Fuel Filter/Water separator :

Replace

the fuel filter every 1,000 hours or more
frequently if clogged or replace when the
fuel filter indicator light comes on.

7. Air Cleaner Filter :

The level of dirt in the

air cleaner element can be checked against
the indicator.

Replace the air cleaner filter when the Driver
Information Center (DIC) shows "CHECK AIR
FILTER".

8. Damage to Air Intake Ducts and Hoses :

Check for damage of air intake ducts and
hoses and that those are correctly installed
every 16 000 km (10,000 miles) or
12 months. Replace or adjust those if
necessary.

9. Drive Belt, Cooling Fan :

Check belt

driving the fan, generator or A/C compressor
every 48 000 km (30,000 miles). Look for
cracks, fraying, wear, and proper tension.

10. Cooling Fan Belt Tensioner :

Check

cooling fan belt tensioner every 48 000 km
(30,000 miles) or 12 months.

11. Engine Cleaning :

Clean the engine every

96 000 km (60,000 miles). See Cummins
Owner's Manual for details.

12. Rotate Tires :

To equalize wear, rotate

tires as shown in the figure and adjust tire
pressures every 16 000 km (10,000 miles).

Wheel spacers should be replaced at the
same time the tires are rotated for vehicles
with aluminum wheels.

13. Engine Cooling System :

At 12 months or

16 000 km (10,000 miles) intervals, wash
sub tank pressure cap and filler neck with
clean water, pressure test system and sub
tank pressure cap for proper pressure
holding capacity, tighten hose clamps and
inspect condition of all cooling and heater
hoses. Replace hoses if cracked, swollen or
otherwise deteriorated. Have the hoses
replaced by your authorized dealer.

Also each 24 months, clean exterior of
radiator core and charge air cooler.

14. Engine Coolant :

Inspect the engine

coolant every 500 hours. Replace the engine
coolant every 6,000 hours. When the
recommended coolant is used, drain the
engine coolant by opening the drain plug at
the bottom of the radiator core, flush and
refill the engine cooling system with new
engine coolant. Refer to "Preparing Engine
