Driving and Operating

Depressing this switch will only initiate DPF
regeneration if the DPF warning light has
come on. See

“

Switch Regeneration

Procedure

”

later in this section.

Continued driving without performing
required regeneration will cause the engine
check warning light and engine stop
warning light to come on. The DPF then
must be repaired at the nearest Cummins
Dealer.

DPF Regeneration Inhibit Switch

If equipped, the DPF regeneration inhibit
switch is used to inhibit active regeneration
of the DPF. Only interrupt regeneration if
absolutely necessary.

When regeneration is interrupted, the high
exhaust system temperature indicator light
will go out and the DPF warning light will
turn on.

While the DPF regeneration inhibit switch is
depressed, the DPF regeneration start switch
is disabled. To enable DPF regeneration start
switch, turn off the DPF regeneration inhibit
switch.

When to Perform DPF Switch
Regeneration

If the DPF warning light comes on, the DPF
could not satisfactorily complete automatic
regeneration and driver action is required.
When the DPF warning light is turned on, it
means you must perform the "Switch"
regeneration procedure soon. If you
continue driving too long with the DPF
warning light on or flashing, without
performing the DPF regeneration, the engine
check warning light will also come on.
If both lights are on at the same time, find
a safe place to pull over and park the
vehicle as soon as possible, and perform the
Switch regeneration procedure immediately.
Continuing to drive, without performing DPF

regeneration, will cause the engine stop
warning light to come on, engine power
may be reduced and may damage the DPF
filter.
