2. From steel bar stock of
approximately 2” diameter, cust a piece approximately 8” long.
3. Place 2” of the abr into
the chuck and tighten the chuck. Do not use the tailstock or centre to support the
other end.
4. Set up and cut along
five inches of the bar.
5. Using a micrometer,
measure the bar stock nect to the chuck and at the end, the measurement should
be the same.
6. If the measurements
are not the same and adjustment is required, loosen the hex socket cap screws
(A, Fig 24) which hold the headstock to the bed.
Do Not loosen completely;
some drag should remain.
7. Adjust the two screw
nuts (B, Fig 24) located on the end gear side of the headstock. Loosen one and
tighten the other. Make another cut and re-test with a micrometer, keep adjsuting
the screw nuts after each cut until the bar measurements are the same before
tightening the headstock screws.
Removing the Gap Section
1.
To remove the gap section, locate the two
nuts (A, Fig 25) in the centre of the gap
section.
2.
Using an open ended wrench, tighten the
nuts, this will cause the taper pins to release
and remove the taper pins.
3.
Remove the six hex socket cap screws (B, Fig 25) with a hex key wrench.
4.
The gap section can
now be removed.
Installing the Removable Gap Section
1. Clean the bottom and
the ends of the gap section thoroughly.
2. Set the gap section in
place and align.
3.
Remove the nuts from
the taper pins.
