Configuring Your Cayman 2E-W Cayman 2E-W User’s Guide

To configure settings for the WAN (Ethernet B) port:
1. Enter the identifier you want your Cayman 2E-W to send
when the PPP link is being established in the
PPP
Username
field.
This is the username the Cayman 2E-W sends in a PAP or CHAP
response packet. The information you enter must match the
CHAP username configured in the remote PPP peer's
authentication database.
2. Enter the password you want your Cayman 2E-W to send
when the PPP link is being established in the
PPP
Password field.
This is the PAP password or CHAP secret the Cayman 2E-W
sends. The information you enter must match the PAP
password/CHAP secret configured in the remote PPP peer's
authentication database.
3. Specify whether you want the connection to be
maintained constantly or only when it is needed.
If you choose a connection type of
Instant On
, the Cayman
2E-W shuts down the PPP link if it is not being used for the
number of seconds specified in the
Idle Timeout
field. If you
choose a connection type of
Always On
, the Cayman 2E-W
keeps the PPP link open at all times.
4. If you specified a connection type of Instant On, specify
the number of seconds, in the range 30-600, you want the
Cayman 2E-W to wait before shutting down the PPP link.
The default is 300 seconds.
5. Enter the IP address of the Cayman 2E-W’s WAN Ethernet
port in the
Local Address field.
The default value for the
Local Address
field is 0.0.0.0,
which indicates that the virtual PPP interface will use the IP
address assigned to it by the remote peer. Note that the
remote peer must be configured to supply an IP address to
