Making a Startup Disk
A startup disk is a floppy diskette that contains the system files required
to start up the system. It starts up the system without using the hard
disk, so it comes in handy when you need to perform troubleshooting
steps.
Important
The optional floppy disk drive is required to make a startup disk.
1.
On the Windows Taskbar, click
Start
, point to
Settings
, and the click
Control Panel
.
2.
Double-click the
Add/Remove Programs
icon.
3.
In the Add/Remove Programs properties dialog, click the
Startup
Disk
tab.
4.
Insert a new 2HD (1.44Mbytes) into the floppy disk drive.
5.
Click the
Create Disk
button to start creation of a startup disk.
6.
Specify where the startup disk files are located.

Specify the location of the
Cabs
folder if you have copied the
Cabs files to your hard disk (
page 138
). The path should be:
C:Windows\Options\Cabs.

If you have not copied the Cabs files to your hard disk, you will
need to connect the CD-ROM drive and insert the “Microsoft
Windows Me Operating System CD-ROM” into the drive.
7.
When the
Insert Disk
dialog appears, check to confirm that the floppy
disk is inserted in the drive. Next, click
OK
to create the startup disk.
