VII. WHEN TO USE YOUR BREAST PUMP
1. If it is possible.
There should be a period of breastmilk secretion and breastfeeding before each use of the pump.
2. The electric pump is an apparatus, which helps postpartum women to ease the pain and to extend the breastfeeding
time. It uses the premise that there is sufficient milk and smooth mammary gland. For some women, which are mothers
for the first time, the mammary gland usually is not smooth enough. A reason sometimes can be the congenital nipple
inversion or milk water shortage. So, we suggest you before purchasing and using the pump, to consult with a doctor who
could confirm that your mammary gland is smooth and that the breast milk is in normal condition. Do not buy and use the
pump only as a device to unblock your milk ducts.
VIII. HINTS
It takes practice in order to use the breast pump the best possible way. So it will take you at least several attempts before
starting successfully to use the electric breast pump.
1. Choose a quiet time to use the pump
–
time, when no one will disturb you.
Be careful not to move the pump because the lost of good contact with the breast will cause bad vacuum. Put your bra
back over the pumping mechanism. Figure shows the correct and incorrect positions to stand in while using the pump.
2.Use:
А
. Massage mode (M):
Press the ON/ OFF/ MODE button for a several seconds until the pump switches on. Short press the button
again to choose the mode. By default the massage mode will start working. A heart-shaped icon will appear
on the panel indicating that the massage mode is on. This mode imitates the natural way of sucking of the
baby in the beginning of breast feeding, which is fast and light. Thus, the reflex for flow (secretion) of breast
milk is stimulated and initiated. This mode is with 5 levels. Using the + (L+) and
–
(L-) buttons you can
regulate the massage levels. After 2 minutes of massage the mechanism will automatically switch to suction
mode.
B. Suction mode (S):
Short press the button ON/ OFF/ MODE to choose the suction mode. An icon with the shape of 2 drops will
appear on the panel. The mode mimics a baby's natural sucking with a high and gentle suction force to
achieve an efficient result. It has 10 levels of suction and using the + (L+) and
–
(L-) buttons you can select
your preferred level.
C. Combined mode:
Short press the button ON/ OFF/ MODE to choose the combined mode. Two icons will appear on the panel
–
one heart-shaped and one with the form of drops. The mode combines massage (stimulation) with
suction and is with 10 levels. Using the + (L+) and
–
(L-) buttons you can select your preferred level.
D. Recover mode:
This mode is suitable for women with short, flat or inverted nipples. With its help, inverted nipples can be
pulled out and the pumping process can be improved for women with the problems mentioned above.
Press the ON/OFF/M button briefly to select recovery mode. 2 wave icons will appear on the panel. This
mode has 3 levels. Using the + (L+) and
–
(L-) buttons, you can select your preferred level.
3.Memory function:
Turn off the pump mechanism and the last used levels in massage mode and in suction mode will be
automatically memorized.
➢
Note:
The display will switch off automatically 20 seconds after selecting the preferred mode. This is to save energy.
The pump will continue to run. Pressing any button will turn the display back on.
4.
Once you have finished pumping, remove carefully the pump from your breast. Press the button on the front of the
pumping mechanism and pull down the milk container. Transfer the breast milk into a feeding bottle or milk storage bag,
or close the container using the lid (part L).
5. Tips:
•
If there is no result during pumping, do not continue! Try using the pump at another time of the day.
•
On average, you have to pump for 8 minutes to drain 120 ml of milk. Keep in mind that the amount of milk varies from
woman to woman.
•
Do not overfill the milk bottle to prevent milk from leaking out of the bottle.
