Appendix B. Using the Wind Tracker
Display Unit
The Wind Tracker is a compact wind speed and direction display unit. This model has
advanced features, including 4-20 mA inputs, serial input/output and alarm functions. This
Appendix describes how to connect the Wind Tracker directly to the model 05103 and 05106
series of Wind Monitors to provide an immediate, direct display and also how to use it in
conjunction with a datalogger.
This model of the Wind Tracker has been specially modified for use
with Campbell Scientific dataloggers.
B.1 Description
The Wind Tracker is an extremely versatile instrument, allowing a continuous
display of current and maximum wind speed in a variety of units, and the setting
up of various alarm conditions. Changes can be easily made using the readily
accessible button on the front of the unit. Full details of using the unit are shown
in the R. M. Young manual provided with the Wind Tracker.
The Wind Tracker is designed for indoor use only. For
outdoor use it must be mounted in a suitable weatherproof
enclosure. A special waterproof marine version of the Wind
Tracker is available for use in harsh environments. Please
request details.
B.2 Connecting the Wind Tracker Directly to the Wind
Monitor
When the Wind Tracker is provided with an independent 12-30V DC power
supply, the Wind Monitor can be directly connected to it to provide a stand-alone
unit to measure and display wind speed and direction. If using the Wind Monitor
in this way you will need to remove (or disable) the 1M
resistor (labelled R3)
which is on the printed circuit board inside the junction box, as detailed below.
