Chapter 4: Feature Description
Innovative Techniques to Boost Capacity and Reduce
Latency
Capacity Summary
The total switching capacity of PTP 820S is 5 Gbps or 3.125 Mpps, whichever capacity limit is
reached first.
A PTP 820S unit can provide the following radio capacity:
•
Radio capacity – Up to 250/340/500/650 Mbps throughput over 28/40/56/80 MHz channels
•
All licensed bands – L6, U6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 18, 23, 26, 28, 32, 38 GHz
•
High Modulation – QPSK to 2048 QAM

Header De-Duplication
PTP 820S offers the option of Header De-Duplication, enabling operators to significantly improve
Ethernet throughout over the radio link without affecting user traffic. Users can configure the
depth of Header De-Duplication, up to Layer 4.
Note
Even without Header De-Duplication, PTP 820S removes the IFG and Preamble fields.
This mechanism operates automatically even if Header De-Duplication is not enabled.
Figure 8 Header De-Duplication
Header De-Duplication identifies traffic flows and replaces the header fields with a "flow ID". This is
done using a sophisticated algorithm that learns unique flows by looking for repeating frame
headers in the traffic stream over the radio link and compressing them. The principle underlying
this feature is that frame headers in today’s networks use a long protocol stack that contains a
significant amount of redundant information.
In Header De-Duplication mode, the user can determine the depth to which the de-duplication
mechanism operates, from Layer 2 to Layer 4. Operators must balance the depth of de-duplication
