Getting Started
REAR CONNECTIONS
The BRIO 36 surface is designed to
be a self-contained compact mixing
console however there are a number
of external connections that are
made to interface to other equipment
such as I/O, Networks and OEM
equipment. Some of these require
fibre connections via singlemode or
multimode usually via LC SFPs.
Calrecdonotprovideinterconnecting
fibres/cables,asthelength,typeand
qualitywillvaryforeachinstallation.
SFPscanbesuppliedwithyourBrio36
systemifspecifiedatthetimeoforder.
Formoreinformationonfibreand
differentconnectiontypespleasesee
“ConnectionInformation”onpage31.
Lookingfromlefttorightacrosstherear
panel,thereare:-
2xIECpowersocketslabelledPSU1
andPSU2,eitherofwhichcanpower
theconsole,togethertheyprovidepower
redundancy.TheIECinputsshouldbe
fedfromseparateACsourcestoprotect
againstexternalpowerloss.Intheevent
thatonlyoneACoutletisavailable,power
shouldbefedviathesuppliedIECY-Split
cabletoprovideredundancyagainst
internalPSUfailure.Thereisaseparate
M4earthstudfittedbetweenthemwhich
canbeusedforanadditionalearth.
Plasticclipsprovidestrainrelieffor
eachACcableandshouldbetightened
properlyaroundeachcable.Metalclips
provideretentiontofurtherprotectthe
IECconnectorsfromworkingloose.These
clipsfitsnugaroundlargeIECconnectors
withscrewinterminalsinsideforwiring.

Theclipsmaynotprovideadequate
retentionontheirownforsomepre-
fabricatedIECconnectortypes.Ifthere
isconcernovertheconnectorsworking
looseduringtransit,werecommendthat
IECsocketswithbuiltinlatchingareused.
Belowthepowercablestrainrelief
clipsandlargewhisperquietfanare6
xBNCconnectorsthatprovideoptions
forexternalSyncconnections,the2x
Wordclock,2AES&2VideoBNCports
aresetupfromtheSystemSettings
>Syncpageonthetouchscreen.

arelocatednexttotheSyncconnectors
which,whentheoptionalHydra2module
isfittedallowsconnectionstoexternalI/O
ontheCalrecnetwork.ThelefthandSFP,
whenviewedfromtherearofthesurface,
istheprimaryconnectionandtheSFPon
therightisthesecondaryconnection.
NexttothesearetheGUIandMeter
DVIoutconnectors.TheGUIconnector
providesabackuptothetouchscreen
interfacewhichtogetherwithaUSB
keyboardallowsthesystemtocontinue
intheeventoftouchscreenfailure.
Note:thereisaUSBportinthefrontof
theconsoleforthispurpose.
TheMeterDVIprovidesupto4rows
ofuserdefinablemetering,including
compliantloudnessmeters,anddynamics
gainreductionmetersonacustomer
providedTFTscreen.
2xEthernetconnectorslabelled1&2
areplacedtotherightoftheDVIOutputs
andareusedtoconnectto3rdparty
equipmentf,SWP-08control
orotherOEMinterfaces.Alternatively
theycanconnecttoCalrecH20orCalrec
Assistinterfaces.
Thereare3doubleexpansionslots
labelledC,D&Eareavailablenextto
theseandanyoftheCalrecModularI/O
cardsmaybefittedandtheemptyspaces
filledwithsingleblankingplates.
Totherightoftheexpansionslotsare
placed4x9-pinD-Subconnectorseach
ofwhichcarry4xGPIor4xGPOcircuits
providingatotalof8In&8OutGPIOs.
TheseareclassedasbeinginslotF,for
patchingpurposes.
