SETTING ADAPTER CODES
All one-to-one cable wiring configurations, with the same number of conductors, will generate
the same signature code. The actual displayed signature, however, adds the code of each adapter
card into the signature code for the wire list. This generates unique coding for cables having the
same number of conductors but with different connector types.
At the top of each adapter card is a set of jumper locations. Jumpers on the adapter cards
supplied by Cablescan are preset. The code for each adapter is provided in the Adapter Card List
at the end of this section. The jumpers are not set when bare boards only (no connector
installed) are purchased from Cablescan. It is recommended that these jumpers be installed
when the connectors are being soldered to the bare boards, or when the Universal Cards are used
for custom adapters.
Converting Codes to Jumper Positions
There are six sets of jumper locations at the top of the card.
The adapter card code is 0 when no jumpers are installed.
Jumpers are installed using a binary numbering method. A
jumper represents 1 when installed in a position. Use the
nearby table to determine the jumpers for a particular code.
Select the largest number in the binary number column that can
be subtracted from the code that will not produce a negative
number. For example, 4 would be the largest number that could
be subtracted from a code of 05. Take the results and select the
next largest number that could be subtracted from it. Therefore,
for a code of 05 the results would be 1 and the largest number is
1. Place jumpers across the locations of each number selected
from the table. Therefore, binary numbers 4 and 1 would
require jumpers at locations 3 and 1. (Binary numbers 16, 4,
and 1 would be selected for a code of 21 and require jumpers at
locations 5, 3, and 1.)
