Basic Maintenance Procedures
With the engine off, locate the adjuster barrel on the brake lever
To tighten the brake, screw the barrel adjust out, or counter clockwise so it is moving
away from the lever. This lengthens the cable housing and makes the brake activate
quicker when pulled.
Make sure when you check the brake after adjusting so that you don’t over tighten and
cause it to drag when not applied.
Once you have the brake adjusted the way you want it, tighten down the stop nut on
the barrel adjuster, turning it clockwise or toward the brake handle. Turn the stop nut
as tight as you can with your fingers. Do not use tools to tighten the stop nut.
If you can’t get enough adjustment on the
barrel adjuster, you may have to make an
adjustment at the caliper end, or at the
wheel.
1. Reset the cable barrel adjuster. Turn all
the way in counter clock wise to loosen
the cable
2. locate the retainer nut at the center of the
actuator arm on the brake. Loosen
retainer nut using an 8mm wrench so that
the center screw can be adjusted.
3.Use a 2.5mm Allen wrench to turn the
center screw clock wise until you feel
pressure on the brake, then turn screw
counter clockwise ½ turn to loosen
pressure. Tighten retainer nut.
4. Readjust barrel adjuster on brake lever
as described above until the brake is
working smoothly and firmly without
dragging.
NOTE: It maybe necessary to remove the master link in the rear chain. This will
allow you to spin the rear wheel and properly feel the brake for drag.

you reinstall the master running the proper direction. See page 22.
