4.3 SYSTEMS WITH SEVERAL EXCHANGES
4.3.1 Systems with Exchanges in parallel
In systems with exchanges in parallel the calls are received by several exchanges at the
same time. The first exchange which replies starts to talk to the caller and interrupts the call
on the others. This type of system is used in the case of several positions (
maximum 3
). For
this type of installation to work correctly one of the exchanges must keep the system address
programmed in the factory, i.e. 4000 (
main Exchange address
). A system address different
from 4000 and different from any system EP address must be programmed for the second
and if one is installed third exchange. The presence of the 2
nd
switchboard (
as described in
sect. 3.5.2
) must be programmed on the main exchange. The same procedure must be followed
on the 2
nd
switchboard to set the system address of the 3
rd
(
if installed
).
The normal functions of the porter Switchboard will be varied as follows:
●
DAY/NIGHT switching
– The switching of the system DAY/NIGHT state can only be
performed and programmed (
sect 3.4.3
) on the master Exchange.
If the enable all EP option has been selected for the DAY/NIGHT function on the master
Exchange, or if the local address of the secondary Exchanges is in the list of the EP on
which the function should be activated (
see page 46
), the programmed state D/N will appear
on the display of the secondary Exchanges, but no switching will be possible on pressing
the
button.
●
Call from EP -
All the system Exchanges in DAY mode receive the calls from the EP
programmed for DAY/NIGHT operation at the same time (
see page 46
). They display the
number and (
if programmed
) the name of the EP calling. If the system is video, only the
main Exchange monitor switches on. The first Exchange which answers the call automatically
excludes the others, acquiring the possibility of managing the call (
operation like system
with just one Exchange
).
●
Call from IU -
When the call from IU is enabled on the master Exchange (
see sect. 3.5.5
)
all the exchanges on the system receive the call at the same time. They display the system
address and (
if programmed
) the name or number code corresponding to the EP calling.
The first Exchange which answers the call automatically excludes the others and starts to
talk to the IU. If no Exchange answers the call, after about 20 seconds the call goes into the
“
call queue
” of all the Exchanges. The call will only be cancelled from the “
call queue
” of the
Exchange which will call the IU.
●
Panic Allarm
– To guarantee the responsibility for answering an alarm falling on just one
position, only the main Exchange can receive and manage the Panic alarm call.
Each system Exchange can manage the switch on the EP, door lock, lights and cycling came-
ra functions individually.
A call cannot be put through from one Exchange to another. The Exchanges can communicate
however; type the code of the exchange to be called and press the
button.
