MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
This
section
includes
instructions
for basic maintenance procedures.
If you have the necessary mechani-
cal skills and the required tools, you
can perform these procedures. If not,
see your authorized Can-Am roadster
dealer.
Other important items in the mainte-
nance schedule that are more difficult
and require special tools are best per-
formed by your authorized Can-Am
roadster dealer.
WARNING
Turn off the engine and follow
these
maintenance
procedures
when performing maintenance.
If you do not follow proper main-
tenance procedures you can be
injured by hot parts, moving parts,
electricity, chemicals or other haz-
ards.
Engine Oil
Recommended Engine Oil
The same oil is used for the engine,
gearbox, clutch, and the Hydraulic Con-
trol Module (HCM) on the SE5 model.
Use the XPS 4-STROKE SYNTH.
BLEND OIL (SUMMER) (P/N 293 600
121) or a 5W40 semi-synthetic (min-
imum) or synthetic motorcycle oil
meeting the requirements for API ser-
vice SL, SJ, SH or SG classification.
Always check the API service label on
the oil container.
NOTICE
To avoid damaging the
clutch, do not use a motor oil meet-
ing the API service SM or ILSAC GF-4
classification. Clutch slippage will
occur.
NOTICE
Do not add any oil addi-
tives to the recommended oil. This
may lead to gearbox and clutch mal-
functions.
Engine Oil Level Verification
NOTICE
The Spyder roadster has
a dry sump type lubrication system.
To obtain a precise reading of the
engine oil level, you must follow this
procedure.
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove the LH side panel. Refer to
BODY PANELS
in the
EQUIPMENT
subsection.
3. With the engine already at
normal
operating temperature
, start en-
gine and let it run for at least 30 sec-
onds.
NOTE:
Engine temperature in multi-
function gauge must indicate the same
reading as during riding. If not, let en-
gine run until this condition is met.
Otherwise, it could result in overfilling.
4. Stop engine.
5. Unscrew and remove the oil dip-
stick.
