Service Provisioning A-5
Before calling a service provider, make sure you have
the following information available:
- Your current phone number and address.
- The name of the nearest cross street to your office.
- If you have already purchased a CSU, the manual
supplied with it.
Whom to Call You may order PRI-ISDN or T1-RBS service from either your
local phone company or a long distance carrier. Each type of
access has its advantages and disadvantages as discussed in
the following two sections.
Service from Your Local Phone Company
Because local phone companies own the local loop to your
office, they offer “one-stop shopping” for ordering the
installation and the monthly service. The chief advantages of
ordering service from a local phone company are:

The service provides access to both local calls and
your choice of a long distance carrier.
❐
Allows callers to reach you through any long distance
carrier, not just the one you have chosen.
The chief disadvantages of ordering service from a local
phone company are:

Ordering may be more difficult because local phone
companies are often not as knowledgeable about
PRI-ISDN and T1-RBS service as are the long distance
service providers.
❐
The service may not guarantee end-to-end 64 kbps
clear channel service, forcing you to also order service
from a long distance carrier if you require it.
