1. Lubricate the o-rings and back-up rings with clean
oil and install them onto the brake piston.
NOTE:
The concave surface of the back-up ring
must be located next to the o-ring.
Let the assembly set for 10 minutes in order to allow
the seals to return to their original shape before fur-
ther assembly.
2. Here, the o-rings and back-up rings are shown cor-
rectly installed. The back-up rings must be located
outside the o-rings.
3. Lubricate the outside of the piston with clean oil or
light grease.
4. With the brake cylinder resting on the large end,
insert the piston into the brake cylinder. Make sure
the piston is placed squarely into the bore, and
press into the piston bore. Be careful not to cut or
pinch the seals.
5. Install the eight (8) belleville springs onto the spring
guide. The first spring should rest against the snap
ring on the spring guide, with the concave side
toward the snap ring. Alternate the direction of the
remaining springs until all are installed. The last
spring should be facing the opposite direction from
the first.
6. Place the back-up plate over the spring guide on top
of the spring stack. Insert the spring stack into the
brake cylinder.
7. Use the compression tool, defined on page 4, or a
shop press to compress the springs. Compress the
springs just far enough to clear the retaining ring
groove in the cylinder bore.
