1.0 Introduction

This guide provides the information required to install, use and maintain the BRAC Systems RGW

series residential grey water recycling system. Carefully read these instructions and complete the

installation checklist, this will ensure that the grey water recycling system is installed correctly and

safely. Leave these instructions near the system after installation for future reference.

When integrated into the plumbing of your home, the RGW system captures the water used in your

shower, bathtub and laundry machine (if allowed) and recycles it to flush your toilets.

The grey water from your shower, bath and laundry enters the RGW system through the grey wa-

ter inlet pipe where it passes through a 100-micron pleated cartridge filter, and collects in the lower

portion of the RGW system tank. A 3” overflow pipe connected to your sewer line prevents the tank

from overfilling.

A potable water inlet pipe controlled by an electronic pressure sensor and solenoid valve, assures a

minimum level of water in the tank, preventing the pump from running dry and making sure there is

always water to flush your toilets.

The collected water is drawn through a foot valve by a pump which provides grey water at pressure

through the grey water outlet, supplying grey water to your toilets and if allowed, a closed loop ir-

rigation system.

An electronic chlorination system circulates the grey water through a separate chlorinator valve at

programmable intervals, allowing the grey water to be treated to a safe level without becoming over-

chlorinated.

The RGW series requires a connection to your home’s sanitary drain and should only be installed by

a licensed plumber. We recommend that your plumber also install a fresh water bypass and shut-off

valve to provide backup clean water to your toilets in the event of a power failure or should your sys-

tem require removal for servicing. We also recommend a grey water bypass overflow and shut-off

valve so that in the event of a filter obstruction, your bath and shower drains will not back up.

Laundry Option:

Check local plumbing codes If the laundry option is allowed in your jurisdiction. While laundry water

is suitable for reuse, the presence of lint may increase the frequency of filter cleaning required. If

using laundry water as a grey water source, BRAC Systems offers a prefilter that will increase the

duty cycle of the primary filter. Contact your local BRAC Systems service representative for more

information.

Research and testing has shown that in the average household, with each member taking an aver-

age of one shower per day, sufficient quantities of grey water are generated by bathing alone to

match the amount of average flushes per day in the same household. So you may choose to omit

capturing the laundry water when installing your system.

You may also consider installing both a traditional drain alongside a grey water drain to the RGW

system behind your laundry machine. This will allow you to include or exclude your laundry water

from grey water collection simply by moving the hooked drain hose behind your washer from one

hole to the other. Be sure to refasten the hose securely.
