Description
2.1
General
As the manufacturer of central heating equipment, it is our responsibility
to produce equipment that operates as economically and cleanly as
possible.
In order to achieve this, our central heating devices have a modulating
burner. This means that the boiler is able to burn at any output. In order
to capitalise on this modulating process of the burner to the maximum,
the central heating equipment has to be controlled by a modulating
regulator. The MBC 2 modulating cascade regulator has been specially
designed for smaller cascade installations that consist of a maximum of
2 devices.
The MBC 2 has no control panel and its simple operation represents an
important advantage. In fact, the MBC 2 is connected to a ModuLine
(
i
RT) thermostat and this is used to control the equipment. The overall
simplicity of the unit controls therefore depends on the type of
ModuLine (
i
RT) thermostat connected to the MBC 2.
The choice of the type of ModuLine (
i
RT) thermostat is determined by:
• the simplicity of the controls required by the user;
• the user’s further requirements;
• the regulation principle required for the central heating.

2.2.1
Regulation principle - general
There are 2 different regulation principles possible, namely:
• modulating room temperature regulation;
• modulating weather-dependent regulation.
The regulation principle is determined not by the MBC 2 but by the type
of ModuLine (
i
RT) thermostat that is connected to the MBC 2.
Modulating room temperature regulation
A modulating room temperature regulator can be chosen in situations in
which it is sufficient for the room temperature in the other rooms to be
determined on the basis of the room temperature in the reference area.
An example would be a home that is inhabited by one family, and where
one particular room such as the living-room is a good reference room.
(
An important advantage of a modulating room temperature regulator is
that, generally speaking, this regulator is more economical for energy
consumption than a modulating weather-dependent regulator.
Furthermore, a modulating room temperature regulator is usually
simpler to control than a modulating weather-dependent regulator.
With a modulating room temperature regulator, an outside temperature
sensor can be used exclusively as frost protection for the equipment in
the event of long-term absence during periods of frost. See also § 2.2.4
“Frost protection - general”.
The conditions for a modulating room temperature regulator:
• If a ModuLine (
i
RT) thermostat is connected to the MBC 2 whose
regulation principle can be programmed, it will be necessary for this
ModuLine (
i
RT) thermostat to be programmed as a room
temperature regulator. For this, see the user and installation
instructions for the ModuLine (
i
RT) thermostat;
• The heating units in the reference room must always be open, and
should not be fitted with a supplementary regulator such as
thermostatic radiator valves;
• The modulating room temperature regulator should be placed in a
room such as the living-room that can serve as a reference room;
• The supply temperature sensor must be used.
