Cutting any sheet-metal parts of a steel solid fuel
burning fireplace, in which the gas fireplace insert is
to be installed, is prohibited.
•
The fireplace flue damper can be fully blocked open
or removed for installation of the gas fireplace insert.
•
The fireplace and fireplace chimney must be clean
and in good working order and constructed of non-
combustible materials.
•
Chimney cleanouts must fit properly.

FACTORY BUILT FIREPLACE OR ZERO CLEARANCE

• Ensure that there is a minimum base of sheet metal
below the unit upon installation along with supplied
levelling bolts.
•
If the factory-built fireplace has no gas access
hole(s) provided, an access hole of 1.5” (37.5 mm)
or less may be drilled through the lower sides or
bottom of the firebox in a proper workmanship-like
manner. This access hole must be plugged with non-
combustible insulation after the gas supply line has
been installed.
• Refractory, glass doors, screen rails, screen mesh,
and log grates can be removed from the fireplace
before installing the gas fireplace insert.
•
Smoke shelves, shields, and baffles may be removed
if attached by mechanical fasteners.
•
Trim panels or surrounds shall not seal ventilation
openings in the fireplace.
Massachusetts installations (Warning): This product must be installed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter when
installed within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Other Massachusetts code requirements: Flexible
connector must not be longer than 36in., a shut off valve must be installed; only direct vent sealed combustion
products are approved for bedrooms/bathrooms. A carbon monoxide detector is required in all rooms
containing gas fired direct vent appliances. The fireplace damper must be removed or welded in the open
position prior to installation of a fireplace insert.
