4.3.3
Refrigerant side
▶ The discharge gas line must be elastic in such a way
that a minimum of vibrations and movement is trans-
ferred to the shell and tube condenser. It may be ne-
cessary to fit vibration eliminators.
▶ Use pulsation mufflers to damp discharge gas pulsa-
tions.
▶ Design and operate the whole system in such a way
that the maximum operating pressure in the pressure
equipment cannot be exceeded.
Pressure relief valves are essential
• if it is to be expected that the maximum operating
pressure will be exceeded due to external heat
sources (e. g. fire),
• or if the entire refrigerant charge of the installation is
more than 90% of the refrigerant side volume of the
shell and tube condenser at 20°C. Refrigerant side
volume means the volume between operationally
lockable valves before and after a pressure equip-
ment. In case of shell and tube condensers being
mounted in series, it is the volume of all refrigerant
sides of the shell and tube condensers and the con-
necting pipes.
▶ Install in these cases overflow pressure relief
devices that lead the refrigerant to the low pressure
side of the installation.
Safety switching device
According to the local regulations, safety switching
devices for pressure limiting must be provided.
4.3.4
Coolant side
▶ Mount for each shell an tube condenser one flow
regulating valve.
▶ Dimension the flow regulating valve thoroughly.
▶ Separate out any solids by suitable filters.
▶ Avoid the presence of gas through suitable design
measures.
Open circuits: The pressure equipment must not drain
off while standstill.
▶ Preferably mount the flow regulating valve at the
coolant outlet.
▶ If it is mounted at inlet, mount a swan-neck at the
outlet.
Coolant: tap-water
▶ Depending on local regulations a pipe disconnector
might be installed.
