2. Important safety instructions
2.1. General safety instructions
•
In order to avoid toppling and dangerous situations when pushing,
you should practice handling your new wheelchair on a flat,
manageable area without anyone in the wheelchair. You should
practice pushing and pulling forwards and backwards, braking and
securing the brakes.
•
Before using the wheelchair, please check whether all fitted parts
are properly fixed.
•
Never lift the wheelchair at parts which are not securely fixed
(armrests or leg rests).
•
Please note that the risk of tipping to the side and tipping
backwards may increase due to shifts in equilibrium caused by body
movements or loads on the wheelchair.
•
The wheelchair must not be misused to transport more than one
person or load. Please ensure that you respect the intended purpose
of the product.
•
Please note there is a risk of entrapment between moving parts
when adjusting, using and maintaining the wheelchair.
•
When negotiating obstacles (steps etc.), use the tipping aid (see
overview of the wheelchair) to tip the wheelchair in an appropriate
way.
•
Avoid pushing the wheelchair into an obstacle (step, kerb) without
braking.
•
Avoid using on uneven, loose surfaces.
•
When getting into or out of the wheelchair, apply both locking
brakes.
•
Always follow the road traffic regulations when on the road.
•
The passive lighting (reflectors) on your wheelchair must always be
visible to other road users.
•
Please note that upholstery parts that are exposed to direct
sunlight heat up and can cause injury to the skin on contact. You
should therefore cover these parts or protect the wheelchair from
sunlight.
1. Preface
Dear user,
By purchasing your Bischoff & Bischoff Steward transit wheelchair, you
are getting a top-quality German product that is setting new standards
in terms of its versatility. The Steward is intended both for indoor and
outdoor use.
The Steward wheelchair is intended only for the transport of people by
assistants. It is not suitable for use without assistance.
This operating manual is intended primarily for the assistants and is
to help you become more familiar with the operation and use of the
wheelchair. Please read and follow the operating manual carefully
before operating your new wheelchair for the first time. The operating
manual is an integral and necessary component of the wheelchair.
Keep the operating manual where you can refer to it and if you transfer
the wheelchair, give the manual to the new owner.
For visually impaired users, this document is available as a PDF file on
