Check the voltage at points 1 and 2 with respect to ground (chassis), (see Figure 8-3). The
voltage at each point should be very close to 13.5 volts.

Run the motor by turning the switch to "TEST-RETRACT". Notice that the voltage drops
slightly at points 1 and 2. This test verifies that both battery strings are supplying current.

l.

Return the switch to the HOLD-EXTEND position. Plug the electronic chassis back on and
secure it with two nuts, including the split and flat washers.

STEP 3 - LIGHTLY GREASE THE O-RINGS

a.

Inspect the face and radial sealing O-rings for damage. If necessary, see Section 8.7 of this
manual for replacement instructions.

b.

Using silicone grease, lightly grease the face and radial sealing O-rings. It is EXTREMELY
IMPORTANT that only a very thin coating of grease is used. Too much grease could displace
the O-ring when it is under pressure.

c.

Also, very lightly grease the metal face seal outside of the O-ring and on the end of the
housing. Use just a very thin film of grease here to prevent crevice corrosion.

STEP 4 - CLOSE THE HOUSING

a.

It is strongly recommended that the air inside the housing be very dry to prevent condensation
when the instrument is deployed. As the housing is being closed, purge the inside with dry
nitrogen gas, then quickly close the housing.
