Kaleido-Modular-X
Hardware Description & Installation Manual
• The Kaleido-Modular-X Quick Start Guide, which provides detailed instructions on
installing cards and their associated rear panels for your initial deployment
In addition to the above, you need the following (not supplied):
• At least one Densité 3, Densité 3+ FR4, or Densité 3+ FR1 housing frame
• For a quad-head system with 64 SDI inputs, or if you wish to have separate input and
output stages, then you will also need a separate Densité 3, Densité 3+ FR4, or
Densité 3+ FR1 frame to house your output cards
• A Densité CPU-ETH2, or CPU-ETH3 frame controller card for each housing frame
• A GPI-1501 GPI I/O module
(optional)
• A REF-1801 HD/SD frame reference module
(optional

not needed if the frame controller
is a CPU-ETH3)
• Up to 4 displays
• A dedicated 100Base-T Ethernet switch with enough ports for the KMX-3901-OUT
output cards, the housing frames’ CPU-ETH2, or CPU-ETH3 controller cards, client PCs,
Kaleido-RCP2 units, and Audio Bridge Terminals
• Access to a separate network, for the KMX-3901-IN IP input/output modules’ IPG-3901
card (if any) to connect to data streams
• Client PC
Note:

Quick Start Guide for your multiviewer model, and some ancillary
documents (e.g., welcome letters, warranty cards) are distributed in printed
form. You can obtain the latest version of the Kaleido-X User’s Manual, Quick
Start guides and hardware reference manuals for all multiviewer models, as
well as the Release Notes, from the
Documentation Library

Valley’s website. (Refer to the

for a complete list.) Software, drivers, sample databases, and useful data are
available from the
Downloads
section of the website.
Notes
• Early revisions of the KMX-3901-IN input cards (see
not
fully compatible with the Densité 3+ FR4 frame. These
cards are unable to properly extract the URS signal from the frame. Should
you decide to rely on the card's external reference input (instead of the
URS signal), to genlock your signals, the card will operate properly,
however URS time code extraction will be unreliable. Grass Valley can
modify these cards if needed (see
• Input cards with a
double
rear connector panel are compatible with
Densité 3+ FR4, and Densité 3+ FR1 only.
• KMX-3901-IN IP input/output cards and their associated rear connector
panel are compatible with Densité 3+ FR4 only.
Note:
Output cards with a
single
rear connector panel (
KMX-3901-OUT-D-
3+SRP
) are compatible with Densité 3+ FR4, and Densité 3+ FR1 only.
