A GOOD LOCK
Most Batavus bicycles for children are
equipped with a good safety lock. If
you want to hang on to your bicycle
for a long time, always use the lock. At
spots where a lot of thefts take place,
such as in the city, you can make sure
that your bicycle is extra safe by using
a cable lock. The cable does have to go
through the frame and one of the two
wheels and not just through the front
wheel. Insure your bicycle against theft.
Your Batavus dealer can tell you more
about insurance. Did you know that
there are insurance companies which
require a special safety lock?
THE CERTIFICATE OF OWNERSHIP
What you should do if, despite these
measures, your bicycle is stolen:
1. Always report the theft to the police.
2. ALWAYS take your Certifi cate of
Ownership and all the relevant details
concerning your bicycle (which you
receive when you purchase it) with you.
3. If you have insured your bicycle you
must also inform your insurance com-
pany of the theft.

CYCLING SAFELY ON PUBLIC ROADS
You probably usually use your Batavus
bicycle on public roads (only with your
parents’ permission or when supervised
by your parents or carers, of course).
It goes without saying that you will
observe the traffi c rules, for your own
safety and that of other road users.
Furthermore, you must ensure that the
bicycle is equipped such that it meets
the statutory minimum requirements.
This is the case when you purchase your
Batavus bicycle, but it may no longer
be so after a time because of wear on
certain components such as brakes or
lighting. Have these things checked
regularly, preferably by your Batavus
dealer. When cycling, keep your hands
on the grips and remain seated on
the saddle (except, of course, during
mounting and dismounting).
• If you make a trip with a bicycle on
the carrier, make sure that any acces-
sories which can vibrate loose (pump,
bidon or water bottle, etc.) are remo-
ved from it in advance. Check whether
the nuts and bolts are still tight after
the trip.
