Since the DNA repair mechanism may be impaired, we advise against infrared application for 24 hours after sunbathing or solarium.
In case of acute injury/inflammation, the application of heat may lead to an increase in symptoms and should therefore be avoided.
In users with mild coagulation disorders, silent bleedings may occur, causing nevertheless inflammatory reactions, so heating is not recommen-
ded as possibly aggravating the condition.
Erythema ab Igne (EAI)
Repeated episodes of elevated skin temperatures can lead to pigmentary changes, which are known as Eythema ab Igne (EAI). Such reticula-
ted, erythematous or hyperpigmented dermatoses have a good prognosis and mostly are a cosmetic problem and no serious damage.
Reddened skin is normal to a certain degree and should decrease max. 2–3 hours after finishing the application. The use of the infrared cabin
should be discontinued until skin has fully recovered. In case of persisting reddening of the skin (more than 12 hours), a doctor should be
consulted. The skin structure could change permanently and heat melanosis could develop, should heat application nevertheless be continued.
The use of the infrared cabin should be discontinued until skin has fully recovered.
The
b-intense
®
MED is not intended for face application. A safe distance has to be kept to the front heater and directly looking into the heater
for more than nine minutes is not recommended.
Information on radiation emissions
The
b-intense
®
MED has one front heater and one back heater, which emit the following infrared radiation composition in normal operation
and at maximum power:
› Front heater: 16% IR-A (0,78
≤
λ
≤
1,4 µm), 51% IR-B (1,4
≤
λ
≤
3 µm) and 33% IR-C (
λ
*
> 3 µm)
› Back heater: 15% IR-A (0,78
≤
λ
≤
1,4 µm), 58% IR-B (1,4
≤
λ
≤
3 µm) and 27% IR-C (
λ
*
> 3 µm)
› The remainder is a minimal proportion of harmless visible radiation (
≤
0,2%), ultraviolet or other proportions are not included.
Maximum output of OPTICAL RADIATION for all intended configurations of the
b-intense
®
MED is 982 W/m²
Spectral irradiance or spectral radiant exposure for all intended configurations of the
b-intense
®
MED is 1000 W/m²
Maximum variation of the output from the mean value across the treatment area is 50 W/m².
By reducing the intensity of the infrared heaters, the wavelength components shift towards long-wave IR, which means that the components
of IR-A and IR-B are less and IR-C more present. Provided that the body’s natural reaction to move away from heat is not impaired, there is no
possibility of burning the skin with the
b-intense
®
heaters as long as they are used as intended.
Through suppression of heat sensibility (e. g. under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication) or certain measures to increase blood flow in
the skin (e. g. strong mechanical rubbing) burnt skin cannot be excluded. In such cases, medical supervision is necessary while using the cabin.
If used properly and as intended, damage to the eyes through IR-A and IR-B waves is very unlikely. The chance of damage can only grow in
case of unfavorable gazing or sitting (gazing directly into the heater for more than 9 minutes or more often, especially with the upper body
bent forward, so the eyes are relatively close to the heater). Should this not be ensured during application or should the body length of the user
lessen the distance to the front heater, safety glasses are recommended (at least security level 4-4 according to EN 171).
The back heater may only be used with the provided backrest. Only then can the necessary distance to the heater and therefore the correct
irradiance be guaranteed.
