9.1.1.Mineral hydraulic fluids
All hydraulic oil brands prescribed by the carrier
manufacturer are suitable for operating the hydraulic
cutter.
The oil should however correspond to viscosity class
HLP 32 or higher.
In summer and in hotter climates, oils of viscosity
class HLP 68 or higher should be used.
In all other respects the regulations of the carrier
manufacturer are to be considered.
Please observe Fig. 7 when using hydraulic oils for
carriers to operate the hydraulic cutter.

9.1.2.Environment−friendly fluids
In order to protect the environment or on technical
grounds, fluids are currently being used which are
not classified as HLP mineral oils. There are three
different groupings, classified according to the fluid
base:
−
synthetic, water−soluble fluids based on
special polyglycols
−
synthetic ester−based fluids
−
vegetable−based fluids such as rapeseed
oil, sunflower oil or similar
When determining whether the hydraulic tool can be
run on fluids of this kind it is imperative to know the
name and exact type of the fluid involved. The
manufacturers provide data sheets for each type with
characteristic data such as components, base,
viscosity, temperature limits, compatibility etc.
Max. oil temperature = 60
o
C
Before using fluids of this kind it is imperative to
enquire with the carrier manufacturer whether
operations with such fluids are possible.
Atlas Copco tools are basically designed for use with
mineral oils.
Before
using other fluid types which
have been approved by the carrier manufacturer,
Atlas Copco’s Customer Support must always be
consulted. Following initial assembly and after any
workshop repairs, our tools are subjected to a test
run on a test bed powered by mineral oil.
Even small traces of mineral oil mixed in with
environment−friendly fluids can result in damage to
both hydraulic attachment and carrier.
The environment−friendly fluids will be deprived
of their special properties, such as
biodegradability and toxic behaviour.
It should also be noted that official regulations
require such mixtures to be treated as special waste
for disposal purposes.
Should you wish to run your Atlas Copco tool on
environment−friendly fluid or be required to do so by
official regulations, please advise us accordingly so
that the tool can be properly prepared for operations
of this nature.
When returning tools for repair, it is imperative
that the name of the fluid in use be indicated.
