SPARK FORMATION

The Yalelift hoist series has been designed

exclusively for lifting, lowering, pulling and

spanning of loads. In combination with trol-

leys (YLITP/G und YLLH) they are also capa-

ble for the horizontal transport of loads.

Note:

Trolleys must be provided with buffers!

Any different or exceeding use is consid-

ered incorrect and Yale Industrial Prod-

ucts GmbH will not accept any responsi-

bility for damages resulting from false

application. The risk is solely with the user.

Materials subject to danger of friction
and impact

Increased danger of ignition may emanate

from clashing of special material pairings.

These are non corrosion-resistant steel or cast

iron against aluminium, magnesium or perti-

nent alloys. This applies especially in case of

rust or surface rust. Chain and load hook in

particular can generate rust (surface rust) at

the wear points. To ensure correct operation

of the product, these wear points must be clear

from rust and – in the application area at pos-

sible friction, impact or grinding points - do

not present material combinations from a.m.

aluminium alloy and steel (exception: antirust

steel), in order to exclude spark formation as

a result of mechanical impact.

Hand and load chain

Always ensure that hand and load chain as

well as the load are guided to exclude grind-

ing or sliding contact with external construc-

tions or components. Depending on the de-

gree of corrosion, the conductive discharge

capability of load and hand chains can wors-

en to an effect that it is not adequate any long-

er. This implies that rusty hand and load chains

must not be further used.

Attention:

The user has to operate the unit

to  avoid sparking from either hand or load

chain. Models YLITP/G, YLLH and Towerlift

must be operated from below.

For additional safety and to avoid sparking by

impact or friction during operation, the units

are equipped with stainless steel hand chains.

Top and load hooks are copper plated.

Trolleys are provided with solid bronze wheels

and buffers.

Optional:

 Stainless steel load on request.

Attachment points

Attachment points have to be selected to

ensure that the expected forces can be safely

accepted. The unit must move freely under

load in order to avoid incorrect additional

loading.

STATIC ELECTRICITY

In order to avoid static charge at plastic parts,

do not use parts of attachment (e.g. round

slings) in the area of facing panels, hand chain

guide and cap (see Fig. 11).

When cleaning these components, make sure

to apply only materials which do not allow elec-

trostatic charging.

TRANSPORT AND STORAGE

Safe transport

During transport of the unit observe to follow-

ing:

- Do not throw the hoist down. Always

place it properly on the ground.

- Hand and load chains must be trans-

ported in a way to avoid knott ing and

formation of loops.

INITIAL OPERATION

Inspection prior to initial operation

Hoists including carrying construction have to

be inspected prior to initial operation and

after each essential alteration by a competent

person*. The inspection shall establish that

the unit is safe and ready for operation.

* A competent person is a person with profes-

sional training, experience and actual opera-

tion to provide the necessary expertise for the

inspection of material handling equipment.

Check brake function

Prior to each operation check brake function

as follows:

- Lift the load over a short distance and lower

again. When releasing the hand chain, the

load must be safely held in any position.

Attention:

In case of brake failure consult

the manufacturer/supplier!

CORRECT OPERATION

The unit is designed for lifting, lowering, pull-

ing and spanning of loads.

- The capacity indicated on the product is the

maximum safe working load (WLL) that may

be attached.

- The load and suspension hook of the hoist

during lifting operations must be perpendic-

ular to the centre of the load in order to pre-

vent swinging during lifting (Fig. 1).

- Do not allow personnel to stay or pass un-

der a suspended load.

- After lifting or tensioning, a load must not

be left unattended for a longer period of time.

- After lifting or tensioning, a load must not

be left unattended for a longer period of time

- Start moving the load only after it has been

attached correctly and all personnel are clear

of the danger zone.

- The operator must ensure that the load is

attached in a manner that does not expose

himself or other personnel to danger by the

hoist, chain(s) or the load.

- The hoists can be operated in ambient tem-

peratures between -10

°

C and + 40

°

C.

Consult the manufacturer in case of extreme

working conditions.

Note:

 At ambient temperatures below 0

°

C

the brake should be checked for freezing.

- The air gap between trolley side plate and

carrying beam must be 2-3 mm in order to

avoid a potential source of ignition.

- In case of operational turning of loads as

standard, the bottom blocks have to be pro-

vided with swivel hooks supported by axial

bearings. In case of queries consult the

manufacturer.

- Trolleys should be generally provided with

buffers in order to exclude a possible source

of ignition.

- In order to ensure correct operation of man-

ual hoists, not only the operating instructions,

but also the accident prevention act valid for

the country and area where the product is

used, have to be adhered to.

- Maintenance jobs as well as the annual in-

spection may carried out in Ex free areas

only.

- In case of functional defects stop using the

hoist immediately.

- Trolleys must be operated on horizontal car-

rying beams only. Operation on sloped

beams is not permitted.

- The units must not be operated in aggres-

sive atmospheres.

INCORRECT OPERATION

(Examples)

----- Do not exceed the rated capacity of the hoist

or the carrying construction.

- Welding on hook and load chain is strictly

forbidden. The load chain must never be

used as ground connection during welding

(Fig. 2).

- Avoid side pull, i.e. side load on either hous-

ing or bottom block (Fig. 3).

- The load chain must not be used for lashing

purposes (sling chain) (Fig. 4).

- It is forbidden to use this product for the

transportation of people (Fig. 5).

- Do not knot or shorten the load chain by

using bolts/screws/screw drivers or other

devices (Fig. 6).

- Do not repair load chains which are firmly

installed in hoists.

- Do not remove the safety latch from the top

or bottom hooks (Fig. 7).

- Never attach the load on the top of the hook

(Fig. 8).

- Do not use the chain end stop (Fig. 11) as
