8.14.2.5. User scale
Only you know what the User Scale will be: choose any note in the chromatic scale and
any number of notes between 1 and 12. To learn how to create one, see the
section of the
chapter.
8.15. Define the User scale
You can change the notes assigned to the User scale using the pads or the
. It can have anywhere from 1 to 12 notes per octave. Here's how to do it:
• Hold SHIFT and press pad 16 to select the User scale
• You can release the SHIFT button, but keep holding pad 16 while you select the
notes.
• The active notes of the User scale will be lit on the pads 1-12. Pad 1 is always lit.
To create your own User Scale for the pads, turn each note on or off. Use the note names
shown on each button to create the desired scale, relative to the key of C.
For example, if you wanted to set up a whole-tone scale that starts with C, disable the pads
labeled C#, D#, F, G, A and B. That way only the notes C, D, E, F#, G# and A# will remain
lit. Those are the notes the pads will make available when the User scale is selected, and
those are the notes you will hear when the Step encoders are turned or when using the
Arpeggiator.
The User Scale is programmable
