To remove drive belt:
1. Remove grass catcher.
2. Lift rear discharge deflector and support
it open.
3. Remove rear access door.
4. Remove dust cap and loosen adjusting
nut on the adjusting rod (Figure 14).
5. Pull bottom of transmission toward the
mower pan.
6. Remove belt from transmission pulley.
7. Slide belt through hole in mower pan.
8. Remove belt from engine pulley and
blade
To replace drive belt:
1. Place belt over blade.
2. Pull belt through hole in mower pan.
3. Put belt on transmission pulley.
4. Put belt on engine pulley.
IMPORTANT:
Be sure the belt seats in pulley
grooves.
5. Tighten adjusting nut until there is 1/4"
(6 mm) between the washer and
transmission bushing, as shown.
6. Replace rear access door, dust cap and
grass catcher.

See Figure 15 and 16.
To check:
1. Remove grass catcher.
2. Lift rear discharge deflector and support
it open.
3. Remove rear access door (item 5 in
Figure 14).
4. Hold wheel drive control against the
handlebar (Figure 15).
5. Measure the tension spring (Figure 16).
Spring length should be 2" - 2-1/8"
(51-52 mm).
