Pump fed system
For a pump fed set-up a pump is placed at the bottom of the pond. The pond water is pumped
into the Red Label filter system via piping. The filter is installed above the pond water levels.
Once the pond water has been fed into the filter, the filter system begins cleaning the water.
The Sprayers and turning drum expel the dirt and grime from the pond water, which is then
rinsed away through the built-in, half-pipe drain. Once the pond water has been filtered it is
fed/pumped back into the pond.
Protection against dry-running (see illustration 4) with 110mm outlets, must be installed as
indicated to prevent damage to the UV unit. The UV unit must be submerged at all times.
Gravity fed system
The filter is installed at the same height as the pond water levels. By placing a bottom-drain
in the pond, the pond water is drained into the filtration system. The filter begins with filtering
the pond water. The Sprayers and turning drum expel the dirt and grime from the pond water,
which is then rinsed away through the built-in, half-pipe drain. Once the pond water has been
filtered it is fed/pumped back into the pond.
These are the two main methods that are applied to garden ponds; Gravity and Pump fed
set-ups. A pump fed set-up is more common and is also easier to install. The gravity set-up
is more complex in regard to installation but generally produces better results and is better
suited for larger ponds.
