If the pump cycles too quickly, the
RBS TRITON™ skimmer head will raise and lower in
the water as the oil is recovered and pumped away. In this case the maximum pump
speed should be decreased so that
RBS TRITON™ skimmer head remains low in the
water for a longer period of time, thus maximizing oil recovery. (Note: The RBS
TRITON™ skimmer should not lower more than six inches due to the accumulation of oil
in the sump. If the
RBS TRITON™ skimmer is lowering more than 15.2cm (6 inches) the
maximum pump speed is set too low).
Adjust the speed of the brushes, increasing slowly, until the brushes are beginning to pick
up water. The ideal situation is when the brushes are totally covered with oil, or when very
little of the brush is showing.
During the skimming operation, the
RBS TRITON™ skimmer head should be moved
around the spill area if clear water areas appear near the inlet to the brushes. This allows
the maximum oil recovery to occur.
When very heavy oils are present, the brush rpm can be increased to the point where oil
can be seen pouring out of the back sump. This situation can arise if: the maximum pump
speed is set too low or of the suction hose is
elevated too high above the pump.
Continuous running with the brushes in contact with
water only will scrape off all of the oil film on the
brushes and a small amount of water will be
recovered. To restore the high oil/water recovery
ratio, rotate the brushes in oil to restore the coating
on brushes.
During extreme wave conditions, the front trough of the skimmer can be removed to
ensure that oil continues to reach the brush.
Loosen the fasteners and open the camlock connection and install the 2.5” cap onto the
male camlock.
