1.4 PRE START-UP CHECK LIST
1.4.1 RBS
TRITON™35 Skimmer Head
Check for correct connection of all Hydraulic lines both on the
RBS TRITON™ skimmer
head, and between the power unit and
RBS TRITON™ skimmer head.
Check that the suction/discharge hose has been properly attached to the
RBS TRITON™
skimmer head/pump.
Check that all bolts used to attach
RBS TRITON™ skimmers heads are in place and tight.
To ease installation of the Brush scraper the Brush should be rotating. The drum and disc
scrapers can be installed before the rotation of the drum begins.
Check the scrapers for proper contact with the brushes/drums/discs.
Check operating area for excessive debris, sufficient depth of water, and ease of
launching.
Check recovered oil receiving area for sufficient capacity.
1.4.2 Power Unit
Check hydraulic oil tank for proper level.
Check that there is sufficient diesel fuel for operation.
Check that the level of engine oil is full.
1.4.3 General Check List - Location
Place the power unit where the operator can see the skimmer head.
A visual inspection should be carried out of the affected area.
Check that the water depth is sufficient to float the skimmer head.
Check the oil thickness and viscosity. Film thickness must be more than a sheen. Oil
must be able to flow.
Check oil type.
Check wave conditions.
Check wind speed and direction. The skimmer head should be positioned at the
downwind extremity of the oil slick.
Check the current conditions. If wind and current are in the same direction, the skimmer
head should be positioned at the downwind extremity of the oil slick. If they are not, the
slick must be observed to determine its direction of movement before deployment of the
skimmer takes place.
